How to spot a Narcissist - back to basics

May 21, 2025·30 min·2 clips
Karen Walker reveals the four basic types of narcissists, including the exhibitionist like Donald Trump, to help you spot covert abuse.
The question is simple. How do you spot a narcissist when that same person once seemed charming, charismatic, and completely convincing as a soulmate? The host begins with recognition. She talks through the slow shift from certainty and attachment into unease, confusion, and that awful feeling of walking on eggshells. The pattern is what matters. Narcissistic abuse is described as covert emotional abuse, with behavior that takes power away from you and feeds on validation. Hoovering gets close attention. In this description, the narcissist does not want to lose someone who provides adoration and validation. That validation becomes narcissistic supply. When separation puts it at risk, the person may slide back into the perfect partner role, seductive and charming all over again. The timing makes it especially dangerous. This is described as happening right after the discard stage, when the relationship is toxic, trauma bonding is present, and leaving can feel strangely hard even when the facts are clear. The host keeps the warning practical. Feeling weak, indecisive, uncertain, or pulled back does not make the struggle unusual. She compares it to an addictive situation, very similar to drug addiction, where doubt can still hang around even after solicitors have been contacted. That matters when planning a way out. Someone may have started legal steps and still be vulnerable to getting drawn back into the same destructive cycle. Self-esteem is treated as evidence too. Confusion and lost self-esteem are signs to notice, not brush aside. The episode ends firmly: name the behaviors, understand the lack of empathy and consistency being described, and move toward extricating yourself from a relationship that is not in your best interests moving forwards.
