Episode 468: Draft preview with former Port Adelaide recruiter Craig Coombes

·38 min·3 clips

Former Port Adelaide recruiter Craig Coombes returns to reveal his top 10 picks for the 2025 AFL draft.

The episode begins with hosts Adam Rozenbachs and Michael Chamberlin introducing their guest, former Port Adelaide recruiter Craig Coombes, who returns to provide his top 10 picks for the 2025 AFL draft. They joke about West Coast's struggles and the AFL's support for the team. Coombes explains he removes father-son and academy players from his list to give a pure top 10, noting the draft is compromised. He discusses how clubs bid on tied players to make rivals pay more, using examples like Harry Dean to Carlton. Coombes then reveals his picks: Dursma as number one to West Coast, comparing him to Brendan Goddard; Cooper Duff Tyler as pick two, a athletic ruckman; and Roby as pick three to Richmond, a powerful mid-forward. He talks about Essendon's needs at picks five and six, suggesting they might target Dawson Sharp and Sam girl. For Melbourne at picks seven and eight, he predicts they'll take Coming and bolter Oli Greaves, a contested beast. Coombes also covers later picks, including Lindsay to Hawthorn and Farrow to GWS, and mentions smokies like Lockie Doverston. Throughout, he analyzes team strategies, player comparisons, and why this draft lacks key position stars. The episode ends with thanks and a reminder to check the top 10 on socials.
