The Honest Penny-Storytelling Podcast for Kids

·13 min·1 clip

The merchant finally promises to give all the gold and the magical cat to the boy, saving his ship from a tempest.

Kathleen Pelly narrates a Norwegian folktale about a kind-hearted boy who gives his jacket to a cold stone, discovers an 'honest penny,' and through a series of magical events with a merchant and a cat named Grumalkin, learns that selflessness ultimately brings greater rewards than selfishness. The story contrasts the boy's generosity with his mother's 'look after yourself first' philosophy.
