Enoch's Prophecy (Jude 14-16; 24-25)

February 12, 2026·33 min·3 clips
Jude quotes the Book of Enoch, an extra-biblical text, for a prophecy about the Lord's coming judgment.
Jude 14 sets the table with Enoch, the godly man who walked with God, placed beside the ungodly figures Jude has already named. After apostate Israelites, apostate angels, and Sodom and Gomorrah, Jude reaches back to someone godly who prophesied judgment. That prophecy becomes the warning: the Lord comes to judge the ungodly for their deeds and harsh words. From there, the preacher moves into the part that feels closer to home. He lingers over grumblers, malcontents, loud mouth boasters, and people who show favoritism for advantage. Complaining, he says, can become so normal that a person sits down and just works through one complaint after another. He does not ask listeners to pretend everything is fine. There is still good in the world, and honesty has a place. But constant murmuring does something to the spiritual life. A Christian can be orthodox, love God, and still let that restless spirit move in. Then desire takes the wheel. Walking after lusts means doing whatever one wants without restraint. He keeps the point plain: God changes what a saved person wants, while unchecked desire leads an unsaved person toward trouble. The close turns toward perseverance. That is not permission to live carelessly. It is comfort that God brings his people back. When the devil is crafty, the world is alluring, and the flesh is weak, God can keep and present his people blameless.
