Tu Pueblo Canta: Treasure of Our Faith

April 7, 2026·1 hr 19 min·7 clips
Peter describes how the LA Congress workshop brought tears and relief to Hispanic attendees receiving the hymnal.
Kate Williams opens with welcome and recognition. Peter Kolar is back as a familiar colleague, possibly the show's first repeat guest, and the conversation has the easy feel of people who have worked side by side. Coffee turns into a small toast. The reason is the near launch of the first all-Spanish-language hardbound hymnal, a project Kate says has been quietly cooking for years. Peter takes in the news without fanfare. The hymnal comes across as more than an announcement. It is the result of editorial patience, musical care, and a lot of ordinary work done with love. Chords, punctuation, italics, formatting, platform presentation: even commas get their due. Peter makes that plain without making it precious. Kate then brings the episode to LA Congress, where a presentation on the hymnal left her in tears, proud and grateful. She names the committee's work and speaks of Peter and Julio with real affection, especially Julio's depth, knowledge, joy, faith, family life, and commitment. What stays with her is the character of the people behind the hymnal as much as the finished book. Then the room responds. Women in front of Kate turn around crying after she is acknowledged, and Kate hears relief in them. She does not overexplain it. She lets it sit there. The ending turns prayerful, with Spanish prayer, amen after amen, and Kate's invitation to explore this treasure. It closes as song and service.

As heard by us

A warm, plainspoken look at a long-awaited Spanish-language hymnal.

The episode treats the first all-Spanish-language hardbound hymnal as a real working achievement, not a headline grab. It stays close to the committee labor, the page layout, and the care behind a book meant for Hispanic communities.
