Don Gleason: Job Transition and Perfecting Resumes

·47 min·3 clips
Don says military transition contributes to 22 suicides a day, and career transition is the number one reason.
Don Gleason comes back for a second talk with Riera. He opens by saying life is hard and people have to figure out how to deal with it. For him, that begins with relationships. It also begins with physical activity. He says he has been retired 15 years. Even so, he still gets up most mornings at 4:50. He heads to the gym when he can. If he only has an hour, he still moves. He says he did three and a half miles one morning. During COVID, he started taking a five-minute break each hour. He would walk down the street and reset his mind. He says that simple habit left him feeling recharged and refocused. The conversation then shifts to job applications. Don says you need to understand the process of the company you are applying to. He uses Amazon as the example. There, he says, five interviewers may be involved. One of them is there specifically to hear your view on Amazon's core values. If you miss one, or do not talk about it, you are out. From there, he pushes the idea of a targeted resume. He wants the resume to answer the job posting and show the problems solved, the things achieved, and the results delivered.
