A locked café is packed with people who look unwell, and the sign says it's closed due to Schrodinger flu.
Morning begins with careful instructions. Mr. Calvajo gets a wake-up call where inverted plates, bed straps, and straw drinking are treated as normal guest care. The hotel sounds calm, which is doing a lot of work. Underneath it, the narrator is trying to turn Gerard's earlier words into an interim management committee. Abedabun is helping. Senior staff from kitchens, bellhops, cleaning witches, maintenance, and other departments are being pulled toward a temporary structure, and nobody seems to have spare energy for it. The narrator wants the administrative work divided up while the hotel looks for a proper co-manager. Then the cure search starts to come apart. Researchers argue over papers and criticism, one doctor storms out, and another tries to steady him. The hope drains fast. They were the only researchers who answered the narrator's missives about the hotel's strain of Schrodinger flu, and time is getting tight. New cases seem to be appearing elsewhere in the building, leaving the narrator with no clear remedy. Sophia cannot help yet. She is busy with Master Daoji and a recent addition to the grounds, while park repairs are still hanging around. The labyrinth comes back into focus. As the hotel's main security measure, it needs a diagnostic before another failure turns ugly. Zuhair is direct. He can send Rafiq and Muhammad to inspect it, but he cannot join the interim management committee. Fair enough. A burst pipe in room 2655 has kept the gin working since before dawn, with water damage and other repairs still waiting.

As heard by us

A surreal hotel report where paperwork, plumbing, and panic share the same desk.

Hotel Daydream begins with a 7 a.m. wake-up call that also serves as hotel protocol, then settles into a week of interim committee planning, repairs, and a search for a cure.
