162: Getting out of our own way and other business goals

·1 hr 13 min·5 clips
Rebecca moves from project bandwidth to cash forecasting and says her payments now run March, April, and May.
New year, same energy. Rebecca and Sean open loose and a little sideways, with freshness talk, breakfast on video, and the push to post more recordings online. The jokes carry more than filler. They are circling that familiar January feeling: ready to reset, but still dragging the same business habits behind them. Then the calendar takes over. One client meeting window turns into a sharper point about offering options without making yourself endlessly available. That difference matters. Time blocking is not a cold wall against service. It is a way to help clients choose. Clients can still be accommodated, but accommodation does not mean every scheduling preference gets absorbed, especially when that time already belongs to other work. Luxury service still needs a starting point. They land on a very working-designer truth: you can be generous with clients without acting like your calendar belongs to everyone else. The color-blocked calendar gets almost funny, mostly because it catches the exact mistake it is supposed to prevent: booking over the windows already set aside for meetings and presentations. This does not feel like a corporate reset episode. It feels like two friends catching themselves in the same old patterns, laughing at the mess, then finding one rule that might actually stick. The YouTube and Spotify aside fits that mood. More video is not a grand strategy here. It is an operational thing they already do and need to post. The ending keeps the same rhythm, with faster turnaround, listener follow-up, and occasional editor's notes pointing to a show trying to stay timely without losing the group-chat feel.
