157: Las Vegas Market, Logistics for Designers

·49 min·10 clips
Vegas Market is not framed as a glam trip or a test of who can look the most polished. Rebecca and Sean start with the normal hesitation around Vegas itself, especially for designers who are not there for gambling or late nights. Once they shift into trade show mode, the city makes more sense: showrooms, vendor lines, sofas, and a lot of walking. The clothes advice is blessedly sane. Cute-but-comfortable is the brief. Anything tight, fussy, or built for posing gets annoying fast when you are sitting on sofas, crossing showrooms, and trying to stay useful all day. Shoes matter. Looking put together helps, but the outfit should not become the main event. Appointments help, especially if you are new to market or meeting vendors you do not know yet. Reps can walk you through lines and give you a better way into the questions. Once you know a vendor, the calendar can loosen up a bit. Most showrooms will still let you in, even if the reps would clearly prefer a scheduled visit. The email warning is the part every designer should hear before registering. A separate business or market email can keep vendor blasts from swallowing the inbox you actually use. Rebecca has a market address, which is funny mostly because the system only works if you filter and use it. Then there is the money trail. Cabs, rugs, and other market expenses blur together unless you label what each purchase was for. Your bookkeeper deserves better than mystery receipts. The useful version of Vegas Market is the one you can still understand after the trip is over.
