S52 Ep19: 3 True New Home Horror Stories That Turned Into Nightmares

April 12, 2026·31 min·2 clips
A man with a scraggly beard stands a foot away on the porch, staring intensely after shoveling the driveway at 2am.
A quiet neighborhood starts the unease. The first narrator has just moved into an unfamiliar home and notices nobody comes outside, even on move-in day. That silence sticks. Inside, with snow falling and boxes everywhere, ordinary unpacking starts to feel strange. He goes to bed early. When he wakes, he knows something is wrong almost at once, and the story lets that first burst of alarm hang there. Then the cabin story moves in closer. A second narrator picks a cheap, small place away from everything because high home prices make the rough drive seem worth it. He brings only what he needs. The seller says the cabin has been cared for and renovated, though the outside still looks rough to him. At sunset, Chandler shows up. He is friendly past the point of comfort, but not so fake that the narrator can trust his own unease. The tour drags. After seeing the small cabin, Chandler sits on the couch and keeps talking while the narrator stands by the door. That is the warning bell. The fear is in having to ask a stranger to leave, then watching him disappear into the dark. The last story stays with the smell. Someone may have thought the home was vacant, but after two weeks there, the narrator cannot make that explanation fit. The motive never lands. Was the odor meant to scare him off, hide something, or make him look guilty? Years later, it still gets him awake.

As heard by us

Quiet moves, lingering unease, and one rancid smell turn ordinary living into dread.

The episode keeps its unease grounded in small, ordinary details: boxes stacked around the house, a cabin that looked rugged from the outside but had been renovated inside, and a neighbor who stayed long after the tour should have ended. That plainness works.
