Pop Culture Rewind: JFK Jr. and George Magazine

March 18, 2026·1 hr 1 min·5 clips
JFK Jr. handed his creative director George Washington's actual sword for a Robert De Niro cover shoot.
George Magazine gets rewound, not rounded up. A tiny wording mistake turns into the sort of quick, friendly correction that sets the pace. The subject is George Magazine, with a stop at Love Story before the hosts get pulled toward the covers and the odd mix of glamour and politics. The 90s keep tugging at the conversation. They notice how loose media speculation could be then, especially around straight men being seen with gay people. Then Demi Moore arrives. According to Matt Berman, she listened to the magazine's ideas, then brought in her own porcelain-doll Martha Washington concept. The hosts are into it because it is so strange and so committed. The cover becomes a little stage: Martha Washington as doll, tiny George Washington as marionette, the skirt turned into puppet theater. They inspect the dress with amused respect, from the red-and-white stripes to the lace capelet, gray ringlets, and big black hat. Politics drifts in through Christy Todd Whitman and Bob Dole. Bob Dole sends them after the Dole for pineapple bumper-sticker joke from the 1996 election. By the end, George has them weighing the funny and ugly parts of celebrity, entertainment, and politics crashing together. Then the whole thing slides into Instagram logistics: carousel, reel, cover reveal, images, video, confusion, fatigue, and a fond goodbye.
