417Gamer Podcast Episode 58: The One with My Score Tracker
·44 min
417 Gamer Podcast Episode 58 reviews four recently-played games and discusses board game score tracking apps. Hot Streak is a party betting game on impossibly-costumed mascots running a race—simple premise with sophisticated closed-market mechanics. Jungo is a card-shedding game compared favorably to Scout but lighter. Twinkle Twinkle is a celestial drafting game with beautiful clear acrylic tiles where players build constellations on grids. Fields of Arl is a demanding two-player farming simulation with 16 options per season—more complex than Agricola but potentially overwhelming. Hosts discuss depth, accessibility, and how complexity scales across design philosophy. They also note the difference between light games for family play (like Games Best and Small) versus medium-heavy games requiring multiple plays to grasp.
