The History of the World podcast debrief - 28th December 2024

·45 min·2 clips
Over 500 years ago, two young brothers disappeared, including Edward V, King of England.
The Debrief opens with Chris Hasler greeting listeners and marking the last episode of 2024. He explains that the show began in 2023 as an exclusive Illuminati-only broadcast, but it is now open to everyone, which is why he thinks the simpler title "the Debrief" fits better. The episode then turns back to the pre-Christmas instalment on Easter Island. He says he wants to look more closely at the source material and say a bit more about what the main episode covered, rather than leaving that subject on its own. A good portion of the runtime goes to listener messages. Hasler says he wants these notes to get more attention because many of them raise points he thinks will interest the wider audience. He also explains that he is not especially reliable with Facebook or Instagram, because messages there run through Meta Business Suite and can be missed. For that reason, he says the best way to contact him is by email at [email protected]. One listener message comes from Mike. Mike says he is studying to teach middle-school history in the United States and was searching Spotify for Akkadian and Sumerian material when he found the show. He says he started from the beginning, praises the narration as distinctly British, and likes the way the series is both easy to listen to and informative. Mike later writes again after finishing the Indo-European episode and shares a note from his own studies about the Aryans, the Sanskrit meaning of the word for noble, and how British archaeology and later Nazi misconceptions shaped the topic. Hasler also pauses to thank people for writing in and to encourage them to keep doing so. He says the podcast belongs to the listeners as much as to him. That closing thought gives the episode a more communal feel than a standard sign-off. The show then moves into holiday wishes and a final goodbye for the year. Hasler looks ahead to 2025 and says there is much more material still to come. The final stretch is part thank-you note and part reminder that the podcast will continue. The episode ends with a familiar outro that includes support links, social accounts, and the show email, bringing the listener back to the practical details of staying in touch.

A year-end debrief where listener messages and show history carry most of the weight.

Chris Hasler uses the final 2024 Debrief as a loose year-end sign-off, circling back to Easter Island and sketching how the show has shifted. The focus stays simple and human: a host talking through what changed, what mattered, and why the farewell feels a little larger than a…
