Hello From The Magic Tavern · Arnie Niekamp

Season 5, Ep 90 - Fool (w/ Jonathan Coulton)

March 2, 2026·45 min·4 clips
Phineas the Fool lands in lemon curd after a wizard's prank goes hilariously wrong.
A performer may need a body. Or maybe only a head matters, because the conversation treats apology and anatomy like rules somebody forgot to finish. That uncertainty does most of the work. Someone suggests apologizing, then runs straight into the problem of having no lungs or head to apologize with. Arnie picks the head. He says he thinks of himself that way, putting up with the body like an annoying extra part. The logic gets strange fast. Pizza skull becomes evidence, because a giant floating skull made of pizza apparently helps settle questions of identity. Then Earth wanders back in. Walt Disney arrives through the familiar frozen-head story, and the fantasy hosts try to work out whether Walt is a title. A magic kingdom makes it worse. If Disney ruled one, maybe the joke has been sitting there the whole time. King Disney gets assessed like a boss. The kingdom was clean, organized, fun, and full of rules, which is about as close as this world gets to workplace analysis. The bit slides toward legacy. One host points out that stories about rebellion and resistance sit strangely next to a ruler who might not love rebellion. Even security gets renamed. The best part is how quickly everyone accepts the premise, then argues from inside it like head-free performance law is standard tavern business. The closing fragment hops brackets. Marnie Pee Pants, Miss Frizzle, and a competition pass through before the Patreon curtain drops, with one last ridiculous name left hanging.

As heard by us

A body-versus-head argument turns into a lively riff on apology, frozen heads, and Walt Disney.

The episode keeps returning to the body-versus-head argument, and that gives the conversation a clear spine. It circles the same absurd question without losing its footing, then wanders through apology, frozen heads, Walt Disney, and the odd logic of power and titles.
