Episode 204 - Remains

March 19, 2026·40 min·3 clips
A former hunter, now a thing among dead things with a root growing in his side, watches dark smoke rise in the forest he once feared.
You were once a hunter. The opening talks straight to a former predator, following brute survival, revenge, and terror of weakness into exile among dead things. Now he is a huntman. With a root in his side and a warden for a friend, he sharpens an axe for the woods he used to hate. Then the dread walks indoors. A burned body lies on a breakfast table, skin blackened, limbs fused, the fiddle mask broken over a face nobody knows. Vincent wants out. Raj stays grave and practical, asking for one last examination, and forgiveness starts to sound less like peace than another job. Then the view snaps wider. The narrator has seen Lady Ethel Mallory as self-made woman, business figure, and swelling parasite. Speechless is new. She arrives in the desert as a rotor vehicle lowers her crate-like container into Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Spidery legs unfold under the blazing sky. Shelby is back at Green Street Manor, and the return to her moth-eaten sofa makes the scale feel wonderfully wrong: monstrous spectacle one moment, old furniture and tense rooms the next. Nothing stays buried here. Bodies remain. Memories remain. Even the host's goodbye treats death like an archive that might talk later. The ending is tender, then nasty in the best way. Nickignick promises to keep the dreamer's memory after everything else is gone, before letting the dread break into a dry mortuary joke. Remains is not only about bodies. It is the leftover harm, attachment, spectacle, and story that refuse to disappear politely.

As heard by us

A bleak, ceremonial chapter where memory, duty, and rot keep the story moving.

This episode sits inside ruin, and that is where it is most alive. A former hunter looks back at the creed that once made him dangerous, while the devil, the forest, and a broken body have worn that certainty down into something meaner.
