It feels huge and cramped at the same time, with high ceilings and overstuffed proportions giving the place a funhouse squeeze. Lee grounds it. The tight layout was built to conserve heat, turning a spooky impression into old-house practicality. The fireplaces help. There may be four, ornate downstairs and plainer upstairs, though no one can say whether they still work.
