S2E90 - Dinner With Death Dissolves All Debts

·1 hr 6 min·5 clips
The Hapless Heroes realize they're not supposed to be here and demand to know why Death invited them.
In this episode of Hapless Heroes, the party is at a dinner with Victor Black, the personification of Death, and Claude Montrose, an immortal associate. They discuss Death's purview, which involves keeping the dead dead but not managing souls. Jam Jam questions his own soul, revealing he was an atheist until space. The team confronts Claude about why they were invited, as they are not supposed to be there. Claude hints at a sponsorship rather than employment, citing their unique survival through extreme luck. Negotiations focus on upgrading their ship, the SS Asteroid, which has a shoddy ether engine held together with duct tape. Victor inspects the ship and agrees to provide a new vessel with professional installation, but with conditions to protect his investment. The team debates what to keep from the old ship, with Chum emotionally attached to the SS Asteroid. They montage custom requests, including a meditation room for Brew, a brig/panic room, a clawfoot bathtub for Glorp, and weapon systems. Claude sends an invitation to the Seeker, an enemy, to distract him. The episode includes tangents like Glorp's long-winded story recap and Jam Jam's drunken antics. It concludes with the team leveling up to 5 and teasing a new storyteller for the next episode.
