·30 min·2 clips
Marshal Dillon warns Professor Milford that Indians might be dangerous, but the scholar insists he's their friend and must pursue his scientific calling.
In this 1960 Gunsmoke radio drama, U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon tries to protect Professor Otis Milford, a naive Eastern scholar studying Indian culture, from the dangers of the frontier. When Milford ignores warnings and ventures into Indian territory alone, he's captured by criminals who mistake his archaeological digging for a search for stolen gold, forcing Dillon to rescue him.

As heard by us

Milford gives Matt Dillon a careful, character driven Gunsmoke problem.

A small Dodge story gives Milford real weight in Matt Dillon's hands, and that is where Gunsmoke feels most sure of itself. The show keeps the action rooted in talk, judgment, and the slow build of worry as a harmless man drifts toward trouble.
