Grow A Small Business Podcast · Troy Trewin

How Nando Barnett turned Selling Style from a tiny home-staging side hustle into a booming multi-million-dollar brand, scaling from 2 to 47 team members and completing 1,400+ jobs a year — a true business success story. (Episode 752 - Nando Barnett)

·43 min·2 clips
Nando Barnett says Selling Style started with a 15-year spreadsheet and a plan to reach 100 million in revenue.
Nando Barnett starts with the long stretch before Selling Style became a full time business. He and his wife, Sarah, left a 10 year corporate career to flip houses. Real estate agents noticed the quality of the work on their own homes before sale and asked if they could help their clients. That led to client work. In 2020, the pair stopped flipping houses and committed fully to Selling Style. The first year brought 46 jobs. Revenue came in at $500,000. The business then moved through $1.3 million, $1.8 million, $3.2 million, and $5.4 million. Last year it completed 1,400 jobs. Nando says 2026 is tracking toward 2,000 jobs. The team has grown from two full time equivalents to 47. Troy keeps circling back to what changed as the business expanded. Nando points to leadership as the biggest shift. He talks about learning himself as a leader and adapting himself to the team instead of expecting the team to adapt to the business. The conversation stays close to client service and speed. Nando says the business focuses on what the client actually wants. He contrasts that with competitors that take a week to send a proposal. Selling Style targets four hours. In some cases, the system can produce a quote in five to ten minutes. Nando says speed matters because clients want speed and because it can materially improve conversion. He cites a Harvard business study that found calling a prospect within one hour of first contact can lift conversion rates sharply. The episode keeps coming back to the same practical point. Growth is not just more work. Growth needs faster systems, clearer service, and a leader willing to change with the team.
