Response to 23 Questions - Part 147 - What is Hadith ( Hadees Kya Hai ) - Javed Ahmed Ghamidi

·21 min
In episode 147 of the Maktab-e Ghamidi series on 23 Objections, Islamic scholar Ghamidi Sahab teaches the third principle of understanding Hadith (Islamic prophetic traditions): Moukau Mahal, or understanding the context and occasion in which a statement was made. Building on previous principles (Arabic language competency and interpreting Hadith through the Quran), Ghamidi explains that removing statements from their contextual setting creates confusion and misunderstanding. He illustrates this with examples from judicial reporting, political propaganda, and everyday communication where quotes are stripped from context to misrepresent meaning. A major historical example is the Hadith 'Al Aimatu Min Quraysh,' which was misused to argue that Muslims should always be ruled by the Quraysh tribe, when the original context indicated time-specific guidance. Understanding the occasion, speaker, audience, time, purpose, and background of statements is essential to extracting correct meaning from Islamic texts.
