We Did a Mock Draft After Free Agency — And It Got Weird Fast

·48 min·2 clips
Jeremiah Love and Fernando Mendoza define the top two, but the real argument is whether quarterback need changes the 1.01.
The mock opens with a jolt. Dave sets it up around how the combine and free agency changed rookie values from a month earlier. Jeremiah Love goes 101. Jeff sees the Notre Dame running back as the easy value, then the room slides right into Fernando Mendoza and whether a quarterback-needy roster can put him in the 101 conversation. That is where this show works best. Someone states the rank, someone else pokes at the roster angle, and suddenly the talk is useful draft-room math, not tidy consensus theater. Mendoza is not treated like a trivia answer. The question is whether taking him at 101 is really that wild if the quarterback need is loud and the Raiders landing spot comes through. Then the board keeps leaning sideways. By the time Chris Brazel lands at the 12th pick, the talk has moved into receiver types, outside wins, explosive downfield work, and ceiling. Mike likes the big guys. That becomes the quick read on Brazel's appeal, because the case is about a profile that might grow into a number one wide receiver. The helmet joke earns its spot, too. Jeff waves off the Tennessee-wideout worry by calling Brazel a Tulane receiver, a dry little room correction that fits the show. Dave then resets the board. He runs back the first twelve names in order, from Love and Mendoza through McKay Lemon, Carnell Tate, Jordan Tyson, Kenyon Sadiq, Eli Stowers, Mike Washington Jr., Ty Simpson, Denzel Boston, Casey Concepcion, and Brazel. Round two starts with Nicholas Singleton. Injuries, a disappointing senior season, and old devy value all hang over the pick, so it has that familiar mix of value and prospect fatigue. Skyler Bell gets the stamp. Jeff's dude approval is enough for Dave to take the pick, and the episode closes with YouTube thumbs-up requests, Apple Podcasts reviews, and the Footballguys Rookie Guide.

As heard by us

A rookie mock shaped by combine and free agency.

This rookie mock shows how the combine and free agency have already reshaped the class. Jeremiah Love opens as the clear 1.01, while Fernando Mendoza follows at 1.02 from a quarterback-needed angle, which keeps the conversation centered on value instead of consensus.
