GW16: Free Hit the Pain Away

·1 hr 23 min·10 clips
The mood starts broken. A listener asks why producer Nate is flying, and the answer is basically a shrug with teeth: missed deadlines, obvious moves, still somehow fine. December does not rescue anyone. The hosts move through patron plugs, holiday discount talk, and the general sense that the game has been miserable. Free Hit nerves show up anyway, even while they insist this is not really a Free Hit pod. The player pool turns into a sorting job, with Skelly, Benny Blancs, Rice, Saka, and defensive availability all caught in the same pile. Clean sheets look thin. Brentford at home to Leeds feels like one of the few defensive fixtures worth taking seriously, while Fulham at Burnley gets a look too. Chelsea at home to Everton has appeal, but nobody sounds fully sold. The Bournemouth clean sheet gets treated as a bit flattering, because Chelsea did not really control the whole match. Newcastle gets dismissed quickly. The derby risk makes that one feel more like a trap than a clever edge. Palmer takes the roughest hit. The host says he keeps floating through the middle third, dropping deep for touches, and not showing up enough in the final third. That makes captaincy awkward. A nice fixture only helps if the player or team can turn it into points. By the end, the logic is plain: mediocre teams waste good fixtures all the time. Saka is not thrilling, but he is probably the chalk captain when everything else feels flimsy.
