Houghtling Dolphin Drama Club

February 17, 2026·46 min·4 clips
Disney's new jukebox musical 'Dare to Dream' debuts in Ketchikan with kids performing iconic songs in a factory-themed show.
The broadcast begins sideways. Joe Williams welcomes listeners to First City Forum, hears the overlap from a wrong button, and makes the mistake part of the morning instead of pretending it did not happen. That sets the tone. Jillian Pollock is in the studio with Angelica, Blake, and Richard from the Howling Dolphin Drama Club, and the visit feels less like a clean promo hit than a community room with microphones on. They have a show coming, so Joe points listeners to the 26th of the month and asks how the kids feel about being in the studio and on stage. Richard answers first. He has two songs, and he sounds pleased about it in that kid way where confidence arrives before anyone has time to fuss with it. Jillian thanks Joe for making room for local voices and for understanding performance from the inside. Joe does not brush that off. He goes back to Detroit, to his great uncle's church, where a woman singing Order Thy Steps stunned him when he was about three years old. He remembers telling her that her voice was beautiful. He ties that little exchange to the first clear feeling that he wanted to sing, which gives the drama club visit some weight without turning it into a speech. The kids get the point: a stage moment can become somebody else's memory. Richard keeps coming back to the microphone. Jillian says that comfort is part of why he was cast in I Just Can't Wait to Be King, while the others seem a little more cautious with the live setup. The conversation wanders, but in a useful way. Joe asks about inspiring others, loses the question, finds it again, and pauses over the discovery that Richard has twin sisters. By the end, Dare to Dream Junior has its invite: next Thursday at 6 PM at K-High. The kids have already made their case. Joe thanks the group, tells listeners not to miss the jukebox musical, and lets the studio's looseness do the selling.
