Justice Pending, Bonus Episode: Killer Story

November 6, 2025·35 min·2 clips
Defense attorney George Parnham smuggled a CBS producer into a sealed jailhouse hearing he wasn't supposed to attend.
The bonus starts with a setup. Justice Pending frames the episode around Claire heading to Austin for the Texas Book Festival and reading an exclusive excerpt from her memoir. Then the setting snaps into Harris County Jail, in a courtroom where the narrator keeps her head down and tries not to move. She is not on trial, but she is far too close to the mess. A Houston high-rise arrest video, shown from seven angles, has defendants kissing in handcuffs and now sits at the center of a leak fight. The prosecution says it was not the leak. The defense says the same. Contempt of court hangs over whoever crossed the line, and she knows how quickly the room could turn if the judge realizes who she is. The funny part, or maybe the dangerous part, is that she likes it. Everyone treats her like background while she quietly understands how much of the scene came from her work. The excerpt then pulls back into her route from Texas into national media, away from the usual East Coast pipeline. The shine comes off fast: her first solo New York trip turns into fear, a bad hotel choice, and a rough welcome near the CBS Broadcast Center. By the end, she walks out of Harris County Jail with her anonymity still intact.

As heard by us

A memoir passage that pulls back the curtain on true-crime TV.

Justice Pending uses a memoir passage to look past the true-crime gloss and into the machinery around it. Claire Sanamaw describes a tense moment in a Harris County Jail courtroom in Houston, and the result feels immediate without losing its restraint.
