Women Deserve Good Theology - Brenda Leavenworth

·54 min·3 clips
Brenda says women “deserve good theology” and that women’s ministry should not stop at Titus 2 or Proverbs 31.
Mike Neglia welcomes Brenda Leavenworth, an author, Bible teacher, speaker, and women's ministry director at Reliance Church, for an in-person conversation in Temecula, California. Brenda argues that churches should not be giving up on women's ministry. Women are in different seasons. She points to single moms and moms of young kids, and says they need places where community is real, not just assumed. For her, women were made for relationship with God and with one another. She pushes back on the idea that women's ministry should be reduced to a cute event on the side. The point, she says, is teaching God's Word. She also says the person leading that work should know the Bible and theology, and should be passionate about both. The conversation turns to a theology study her church wrote for women. Brenda thought it might be their smallest study ever. Instead, it became their largest Bible study and grew by about a hundred women. That surprised her in the best way. Women, she says, want to know the foundations. She talks about teaching the Trinity and then moving on to mankind. Watching women understand those truths makes her excited. Mike keeps pressing into what pastors and ministry-minded men should learn from that hunger for doctrine. The episode ends by pointing toward more teaching from Brenda through When She Leads and a panel linked in the show notes.
