The Thing That Strikes a Cord with Duck Hunters

·36 min·3 clips

Jordan explains that many men go duck hunting without realizing it's not the duck they're after, but the experiences and connections.

The episode opens with Jordan Fromer and Hunter Roosevelt recording from the back of a boat, setting a casual tone as they describe their surroundings and a plane flying overhead. They provide updates on their project to restore the SS Timberqueen, a wooden trawler purchased for $1, detailing work like installing railings and the challenges of working on an uneven structure. The hosts then transition to discussing Instagram posts that have resonated with the duck hunting community. The first post questions when people will understand that hunters care most about the animals they hunt, leading to a conversation about conservation efforts like the Pittman-Robertson Act and the role of hunters in funding habitat protection. Next, they explore a post about the trade-off between easy hunts and becoming an excellent hunter, debating how difficulty builds skill and character, with examples from different hunting states. Another post prompts a discussion on the deeper meaning of duck hunting, emphasizing relationships, personal fulfillment, and shared experiences beyond just harvesting ducks. The hosts also touch on lighter topics, such as who they would call for a spontaneous duck hunting trip and the dynamics of sleeping in the marsh to hold a spot. Throughout, they integrate sponsor mentions for OnX, Final Approach, Weatherby, and Motion Ducks. The episode concludes with a return to the boat project, expressing optimism about getting the motor running and promoting a hunt giveaway for listeners.
