South Louisiana is already scared. The host presents Derek Todd Lee as a charming, ordinary-looking man whose violence has Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas on edge. Connie Warner's murder still hangs over Zachary. Nobody knows whether someone wanted her dead specifically, or whether women are being attacked at random. Then the story heads toward the cemeteries. Officer Eubanks spots something off on a nasty night and listens to the kind of instinct that can keep a patrol from going slack. Why would anyone be there then? He turns back toward the entrance, past the brick columns, the curved metal sign, and the narrow gravel drive. The place is quiet. Gravel, darkness, and final resting places make every small movement feel too loud. Connie is buried close by. Azalea Rest Cemetery and Bueller Plain Cemetery sit beside one another, pressed against the same neighborhood where Connie was taken. That hits hard. The host gives Eubanks room to feel human: a serious supervisor, a compassionate officer, and a father of girls. Then another home enters the story. The home belongs to 28-year-old Randy Me Brewer in Oak Shadows, just one street over from where Connie Warner was abducted. Little Michael is outside first. When a neighbor goes into the house, the truth is immediate and awful, because Michael has already walked through it. The violence is clear. Blood runs down the front of the headboard, and the host leaves the listener with the terrible possibility that the attacker stopped from exhaustion, renewed force, or something darker.
