Rosebud Baker, a touring comedian with Netflix special 'Motherlode,' SNL writing experience, and upcoming memoir 'Fully Baked,' discusses her journey through addiction and recovery with host Stephanie Wilder-Taylor (also in recovery). Rosebud grew up in an emotionally restricted, image-conscious DC family (her grandfather was Secretary of State under George Bush Sr.), where she felt fundamentally misplaced. She carried internalized shame about not fitting in, compounded by her mother's addiction history and recovery. At age 7, her sister drowned in a hot tub during Rosebud's high school graduation; that same year, her parents divorced. Arriving at college with unprocessed trauma, she drank to numb the grief and discovered alcohol provided the belonging she'd always sought. By her fourth year, addiction spiraled into eating disorders, violent outbursts, suicidal ideation, and complete isolation. After college, she fled to Europe and evaded rehabilitation, instead using her boyfriend as an unwilling caretaker. Recovery came later, and she now channels her experience into comedy and memoir writing. She's currently pregnant after undergoing IVF, working at SNL, and completing a memoir that explores the intersection of trauma, addiction, recovery, and identity.
