470. Snake Outta Compton (2018)

·1 hr 2 min·8 clips
The episode opens with loose, blunt banter and mostly stays in that lane. From the start, the recap keeps circling a snake that gets absurdly huge and then bites onto the rear bumper of the cops' car, sending every errand sideways. The show never treats the movie gently. The shop owner shooting the security camera gets folded into an insurance joke, and the talk keeps returning to how fast a bad decision turns into a bigger problem once the snake is already in play. The homeless guy gets a quick aside, then the conversation moves on before it can stall. When the cops head out, the snake is already waiting. It grabs onto the rear bumper, later snatches a cop out of the car, and eventually gets back into the store and eats the clerk. The ATM break-in is part of the same chain of mistakes, with the clerk helping pinball and bee's knees break in just as the cops are heading there for a Slurpee. The episode lingers on the kills with real appetite. The snake bite right up the old asshole and the stomach burst are treated as the kind of ugly flourish this sort of movie lives on. There is a little drifting into side comments, including job talk, but the show usually snaps back before the energy flattens out. Even the rougher jokes feel like part of the same ongoing argument. That keeps the tone from turning into a flat takedown. The conversation keeps snapping back to what is actually happening on screen: one bad setup after another, with each return bringing another specific image, another ugly gag, or another piece of gore to debate. Nothing here gets polished, and that roughness is the point.

As heard by us

A messy snake movie gets sharper when the panel keeps pinning each joke to a scene.

The episode is at its best when it stays close to the movie's escalating set pieces: the cops' Slurpee run, the snake biting the rear bumper, the ATM break-in, the shop owner's shot at the camera, and the stomach-burst kill.
