Chapter 27 - The Inter State (Part 2)

December 15, 2025·38 min·3 clips
Edgar reveals the vault at Fathom base wasn't built to keep things out, but to contain something trying to escape.
The suffering finally has a name. A confused listener keeps asking what the interstate really is, but the answer comes out sideways, half protected by someone else's silence. Nobody gets the whole thing. Instead, there is a nervous little ritual: a pinky promise, offered as proof that even a bad person might be trusted. The scene barely lets that idea breathe before it starts poking holes in it. The explanation keeps going anyway. A fingernail, dry ketchup nail polish, and a complaint about Mac bringing more ketchup turn into a little test of what the astral plane usually stops. People heal quickly here. They do not die, and they do not age. That makes these tiny signs of change feel less like details and more like alarms. The jokes keep the fear from going stiff. Ketchup and nail biting sit right beside the larger worry that surviving here may not mean being free. Recompense starts sounding less like gratitude and more like a deal nobody remembers making. The scene stays nicely unstable. A pinky promise, an eyelash, and a fingernail end up carrying as much weight as realities stuck together.
