Ep 1: Have You Seen Devon?

November 9, 2020·37 min·3 clips
Devon's car was found stuck in snow on a mountain road, keys still in the ignition.
Testing begins like ceremony, but it does not stay there. A class reunion microphone becomes a missing-person appeal as Maxine names Devin Riesling and asks former classmates for anything they saw or know. The absence is suddenly public, and the details are pinned down: Emmett High School, the class of 2015, around 112 people, and a last sighting near 11 p.m. on February 9th, 2019. Then the room tightens. The episode moves from announcement into reconstruction, following the first night after Devin vanished and the people who said they knew where she had been. One friend remembers that night clearly. Isaac says he dropped Devin off at home Saturday night and had not heard from her since, so they go to Patty's house as police start taking statements. His explanation does not quiet anything. Isaac thinks Devin may have left to cool off, gone to Boise, or stayed with a friend. The friend does not buy it. Patty's condition makes that idea feel even worse. Devin's mother had not eaten, had not changed clothes, and could barely manage basic needs, so the thought of Devin choosing to disappear lands badly. The search turns desperate. The friend drives through town, checks every bar and restaurant, calls every friend, and keeps moving through the night without sleeping. Isaac takes a different path. After talking to police, he says goodbye and says he is going home to bed. The friend remembers that with shock. It is not proof, but it is the kind of detail that sticks once a timeline starts to harden. Then the car appears. A 911 caller reports an abandoned vehicle, not a crash, about 17 miles north on Forest Service Road 698. At that point, the story has a colder shape: a missing woman, a boyfriend's calm exit, a mother falling apart, and an abandoned car sitting out on the road.

As heard by us

A reunion plea turns into a missing-person story with steady, slow-burn tension.

Dead of the Night Podcast follows a five-year reunion into the absence of Devin Riesling, and it does so without softening the unease. It starts with the reunion remarks, folds in witness recollections, and then lands on a 911 call about an abandoned vehicle on Forest Service…
