Daybreak Devotionals · Jordan Hansing

Season 3 Ep.45 Why Am I Special?

February 14, 2026·3 min
Jordan Hanson, host of Daybreak Devotionals, introduces the show as offering simple truths for complicated times. He begins with a rhetorical provocation: nothing about any individual person is particularly special. He acknowledges that culture elevates handsome people, brilliant minds, celebrities, athletes, and musicians as worthy of high regard. But he argues that beneath those distinctions, everyone is equally lost and broken and in need of redemption. He then pivots to Scripture, citing 2 Samuel 7:18, in which King David sits before the Lord and asks who he is and what his family is that God has brought him so far. Hanson notes that David was the eighth son of a shepherding family, someone with little social standing by the standards of his time. He acknowledges that David had real gifts — good looks, bravery, confidence, fighting skill, and musical ability — and pauses humorously to note that maybe David actually was different. But he reframes all those gifts as secondary to the central point: David's trust in the Lord and his willingness to love, obey, and repent quickly when he had done wrong. Hanson argues it was God's grace, mercy, and love that made David special — not his own qualities. He draws the direct application: if a person is in right standing with the Lord, that person is something special. He uses the phrase 'worth dying for' to capture the magnitude of divine value placed on each person. He ends with a brief benediction — God is not the problem, he is the answer — before thanking listeners and inviting them to return for the next episode.
