The episode begins mid-action, with Veronica completing maintenance work on a large vessel and receiving praise from her supervisor. A dinner with C-Gen executives follows, during which Veronica is offered a promotion to head of global logistics and the prospect of overseeing a new facility in Japan. The celebration is cut short when Veronica receives a call from Charlie Evans, the husband of her childhood friend Sophia. Sophia went on a solo dive in the Bay of Fundy ten days earlier, disappeared, and has now been declared dead, her body pinpointed by a recovered dive tracker in a cave 300 feet below the surface. Veronica insists on retrieving the body herself and her teammates Billy and Sana volunteer to accompany her. On the ferry to Sinclair Island, Veronica reveals the history behind her estrangement from Sophia. The two grew up together after Sophia's family took in the young Veronica. During the summer after high school, they sailed to a restricted diving area called Old Chink Cove on the north side of the island. Their boat capsized in a whirlpool and both were stung unconscious by sea urchins. While Sophia recovered over several days, Veronica became romantically involved with Sophia's boyfriend. The boyfriend tried to leave Sophia for Veronica, and after Sophia recovered, Veronica and Sophia never spoke again. Veronica eventually left the island and built a career as a professional diver. Arriving at Sinclair, the team is greeted by Charlie, who manages the Evans family resort called Acquia. Charlie reveals that his parents, who own much of the island, have brought in ex-military diving contractors to accompany the retrieval mission. Veronica's colleague Billy identifies the team as a wetworks unit. Charlie apologizes but says his parents take control in crisis situations and insist on full safety coverage. In a later private moment, Charlie tells Veronica that Sophia followed her career from afar and wanted to reconnect, but always stopped herself because she felt Veronica had escaped and deserved to stay free of Sinclair. The team checks into the resort, where they are given complimentary treatments and a cleansing tonic. In the fog outside the spa, Veronica spots a young girl who introduces herself as Alice, Sophia and Charlie's ten-year-old daughter. Alice tells Veronica she must come to meet someone named Syl who knows where Sophia really is.
