๐Ÿ“ˆ Wall Street's Worst Nightmare Just Happened

ยท25 min
Marcus opens solo on Monday, January 13, and says the market has been crazy for three weeks. He sets the tone by calling out Wall Street's worst nightmare and saying he wants to look at what is happening right now. The week ahead brings earnings season, more inflation data, and the jobs report just behind them. Mark is out for this one, and Marcus says he will be back next time. The show also has a few changes coming after the holiday break, which he notes without slowing down. He starts with the S&P and points to the climb that ran hard through mid-December before the move started to break. He asks where Santa Claus went and whether the Santa Claus rally ever really showed up. To ground the setup, he reviews last year's scoreboard: S&P up 23 percent, Nasdaq up 28 percent, and Dow up 12 percent. He then moves away from the indices and into the earnings calendar. This week looks relatively quiet, but the schedule gets busier over the next two weeks. He says earnings season will be interesting because companies now have to deal with higher interest rates. Crude oil gets a separate check, and the chart is moving higher again. That move helps the oil, gas, and exploration groups, which are firmer early in the session. He notes the shift from a low around 65 to 67 in the fall to almost 80 now. He says that kind of move can show up at the pump. The market, he explains, is waiting for a new impulse. The Fed meeting is two weeks away, and Powell is the name everybody wants to hear from. Before then, PPI and core CPI arrive this week and should give a better read on inflation. He also checks the WTF analyzer and says the account has seven open positions. CPRT was added as a 5 percent position on Friday, CTSH was skipped, EA is in the book, and Marcus wraps from Scottsdale before heading back to Austin on Wednesday.

As heard by us

A live market checkpoint where indices, inflation data, earnings, and oil all tug on the same trade.

The episode spends most of its time on a rough three-week run in the markets, then turns to what is coming this week: earnings season, more inflation data, last week's jobs report, and the Fed meeting in two weeks.
