Interview with Evan Reiser: Founder & CEO of Abnormal AI

·52 min·5 clips
The CEO of a top cybersecurity company once Googled 'cybersecurity socks' during a client call.
John opens by thanking Evan for coming on. He says the two met on the Enterprise AI Defenders Podcast, which was his first podcast ever, and that the conversation there helped inspire him to build this show. Evan returns the compliment and says he is glad to be there. When John asks for a short intro, Evan says he has always been a computer nerd and an entrepreneur. He adds that Abnormal AI is his fourth startup. He also says his background is not actually in cybersecurity. The hosts then move into the larger AI question. Evan describes AI as a force multiplier. He says that makes the technology exciting and scary at the same time. He compares it to tools in general, including nuclear energy, because the same thing can be used for good or for harm. The difference with AI, he says, is that it is less controllable. He points out that someone can download an open-source model onto a laptop and use it for almost anything. That is part of why the risk feels asymmetrical. Attackers can make a thousand mistakes rolling something out. Defenders cannot. So the people protecting enterprises tend to be slower and more careful. Evan says the long-term defender advantage is data. He also says context matters just as much. The episode keeps that tension in focus, with the discussion treating AI as a real operational force rather than a distant theory. It ends with the sense that this is a field where the next move matters, and where staying alert is not optional.

As heard by us

A clear-eyed look at why AI makes cybersecurity faster, messier, and more asymmetric.

The conversation treats AI as a force multiplier and a security headache, not a neat success story. Evan Reiser lays out the attacker defender gap plainly: attackers can move fast and absorb mistakes, while defenders have to protect the enterprise and avoid them, which makes the…
