2nd London Confession of Faith Class - 10

Why does the confession forbid playing Monopoly with your family on Sunday?
Chapter 22 is still on the table, and the class is back in paragraph 5. Religious worship gets a tight definition here: acts of devotion offered to God. That boundary does real work in the lesson because it keeps the room from turning every bit of work, rest, or recreation into worship language. Crosspoint is also weighing the confession for itself. The teacher presents the class as part of deciding whether this confession should become the church's statement of faith. Elder exceptions are handled plainly. If the elders disagree with particular points, those disagreements will be named. Nothing gets tucked behind the curtain. The whole thing feels local, deliberate, and a little weighty, as it should. This is a congregation testing a confession, not strangers talking about an old document in the abstract. Then the Sabbath becomes the hard part. The teacher warns against letting convenience make the decision. Scripture has to speak first, and ordinary life has to be arranged after that, not the other way around. He also takes time to be fair. Since this may sit outside Crosspoint's historic teaching, and since the elders are not all in the same place, he walks through arguments on both sides. One argument starts with the Ten Commandments. They are treated as plainly distinct in the Old Testament, set apart from other commands. That creates the pressure. If nine commandments are moral law and the Sabbath is not, the teacher says that needs a serious explanation. The class ends in prayer for reverence, wisdom with oaths and vows, and worship that shapes love for God and neighbor instead of staying only in the head.
