Tysha uses molten metal to seal Octus's gruesome chest wound in a desperate healing attempt.
1. Critical Role Campaign 4, Episode 12 Part 2 is a Dungeons and Dragons actual play session run by Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan with voice actors and game designers as players. 2. The episode takes place in Riesengirdle, a city whose name translates from German as 'giant's belt,' in the fantasy world of Aramon. 3. The session opens the morning after the party's arrival, with Tysha proposing to use the cantrip Mending on Octus's still-open autopsy-like chest wound rather than a torn bed sheet. 4. On a natural 20 Medicine check, Tysha superheats her own steel ear piercing into molten metal and runs it across Octus's chest and stomach wounds, burning her own hand without flinching, then re-pierces her own healed ear to sign her work. 5. Octus describes his altered sensation: everything is slow and dull, nothing acute, and he must actively remind himself to feel things. 6. Brennan explains that pain's sharpest register is its signal function — the fear of dying — and Octus, who does not face death in the same way, only experiences the lower damage register without the existential alarm. 7. The party debates how to approach House Einfasen's castle to recover impounded carriages and over forty arrested men-at-arms, servants, and drivers. 8. Julian decides to disguise himself as Erlich Kersingblad, a minor vassal-house knight he knew as a 14-year-old, using a Disguise Self spell. 9. One player casts Pass Without Trace (+10 to all stealth), and the group rolls stealth checks of 33, natural 20, 30, 29, and 29 — moving completely unseen through the bustling city in broad daylight. 10. Approaching the castle, Aranesa leads the disguised group while Tysha, Velus, and a familiar called Pin wait in a busy marketplace near massive wooden platform cranes descending the cliffside. 11. Julian-as-Kersingblad requests Lady Ingrid specifically at the gate, citing childhood memories of her kindness, and the guards misinterpret the visit as a potential courtship call. 12. Lady Ingrid, blonde with plaited hair and a blue gown, meets them and gracefully deflects the social awkwardness when Julian clarifies the visit is professional, not romantic. 13. She explains that House Royce sent a letter instructing Einfasen to impound the carriages and arrest all caravan members until House Royce could confirm there was no assassin among them. 14. Lord Otto Einfasen enters — shaved head, enormous walrus mustache, every fabric on his body embroidered with multiple materials including possible ceramics — and presents the original letter signed by General Royce. 15. Julian identifies a crooked break in the wax seal and reveals the letter is a forgery by presenting his father's gauntlet, which he carried from the scene of the general's death in Dolmachia. 16. He tells Lord Einfasen that General Royce is dead, killed by assassins sent by House Toconus, that Julian carved blood from Primus Toconus himself, and that the Lady Aranesa was also targeted in the attack on Palazzo Divinos. 17. Lord Einfasen pledges his protection and cites the unbroken alliance between Houses Einfasen and Royce across the War of Axe and Vine and the Falchioners' Rebellion. 18. Ingrid's handmaiden Greta is sent to fetch the original letter from the main keep but is instead found in the aviary sending an unauthorized carrier pigeon. 19. Lord Einfasen asks one question — whether Lady Ingrid instructed the message — and kills Greta with a single warhammer blow before she finishes her first sentence of explanation. 20. A carrier pigeon is spotted flying west from the castle; Tysha's group cannot intercept it, and Lord Einfasen reflects that 'it is a deeply unsettling feeling to know that there are worms crawling around within your body — and this castle, this kingdom, is my body.'
