CKCB Features, EP 12: 2 Faith Assembly Cult Survivors Discuss It

·2 hr 23 min·5 clips
Faith Assembly is the wound this episode keeps touching. The host sets up this Features installment as the first time another survivor from the cult has joined him after his own episodes about growing up inside it. Andy comes in casually, which works. The conversation never feels staged or polished. It sounds more like two people checking whether their memories still match once they are outside the group. The host says he tried more than once to get another Faith Assembly survivor on, and Andy is the one who finally does it. From there, the talk gets loose in a way that fits the subject. They work through belief, old rules, exclusion, and the strange half-certainty of childhood memory. Andy says some of his backstory may be off because he was young. The host keeps grabbing names and threads to follow later. Ray Boltz becomes one of those threads. Andy remembers a Christian music figure connected to Faith Assembly, possibly through the satellite, and the host immediately writes the name down like it might crack open another door. That sends them sideways into who would have been rejected, who would have been called sinful, and how fast the group could turn faith into a reason to push people out. Stryper shows up in the discussion, somehow, and the host uses the band to ask a plain question: if heavy metal reached someone, why would that make it wrong? The Jesus comparison hits harder. He points out that Jesus was criticized for spending time with sinners, while Faith Assembly seemed to criticize people for doing the same thing. Near the end, Andy says even thinking about this material has been difficult. The host suggests that talking through it may make other cult stories easier to hear. Then the show returns to its usual shape: a listener plug, an enemy joke, Andy saying goodbye, and some awkward closing banter that refuses to make recovery sound neat.

As heard by us

A candid survivor conversation that turns cult memory into something immediate.

CKCB's Features episode stands out for how plainly it lets shared memory and hard experience surface. The exchange feels less like a neat recap than a conversation between two people working from the same history.
