Wasteland & Urban Decay

·52 min·4 clips
Anne wakes up in a strange motel with no memory, only to find the entire world has vanished.
Light stings before anything explains itself. The episode starts with a rushed host note about feed trouble, travel, and bayou Wi-Fi, then slides into John Evans's Wasteland, read by Heather Thomas. It knows exactly how to make plain places feel wrong. Curtains. A motel room. A diner parking lot. Dumpsters under a yellow bulb. Anne sees something by the trash, and the story does not let her name it cleanly. Thin and bony, almost canine, but not enough. Living shadow, six red eyes, a beak-like muzzle, clawed hands, twisted antlers. Old, hungry, and wrong. The revolver nearby adds a nasty little bit of hope, but this is not a hero scene. It is about leaving before the thing decides to notice her properly. Anne backs away, then runs. The drive back should take nearly an hour. She makes it in twenty minutes by throwing caution out with the speed limit. Sunset feels like a clock she can hear. The motel sign ought to help. Instead, the light shows more shadows moving where they should not. Anne reaches the room, locks it, and drags a mattress across the window. It is ugly, desperate, and completely believable. The fear comes from practical things: roads, corners, doors, mirrors, and whether darkness gets there first. After the rights language, the feed-drop teaser turns toward New Orleans, voodoo, confession, detectives, and another supernatural crossroads.

As heard by us

A roadside horror that traps Anne between a diner, a motel, and the dark outside.

Anne's ordeal is the kind of roadside horror that works because it stays small and specific. A diner, a motel, a curtained window, a bolted door, a mattress jammed against the glass. Each detail tightens the room until the night outside feels close enough to touch.
