Job 9:32-35; Job's Fear

August 27, 2025·31 min·2 clips
Job asks how a man can be just with God, admitting no one is righteous when they look in the mirror.
Job chapter 9 is the starting point. The preacher opens a summertime series in Job and tells listeners to keep their Bibles close, because the sermon will move from this chapter into other passages. Job does not always get much pulpit time, but here it is treated as a book worth sitting with. Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar are part of the story, though the sermon quickly settles on Job's question before God. The courtroom picture does most of the work. Job wants a place where his complaint and God's side could both be heard, but he knows no ordinary man can summon God to court. God is wise in heart and mighty in strength. The preacher walks through the chapter, pointing to mountains, the earth, the sun, the heavens, the sea, and the named constellations as signs of God's greatness. No one wins against him. Job still wants to be righteous, but he knows he cannot answer God's decree. The older word is daysman. The preacher explains it plainly: someone who could stand between Job and God. Job says there is none. The sermon then turns to Jesus Christ, the mediator Job could not yet see. Christ has done the work. The close is direct gospel appeal, urging lost hearers to believe and asking believers to stay near the Lord and help others come. The prayer asks God to draw the lost, write the message on hearts, strengthen believers, and save those who need Christ.

As heard by us

Job 9 is treated as a plainspoken case for Christ as the daysman Job needs.

This Job 9 sermon stays close to the text and moves at an unhurried pace, taking Job's question seriously instead of rushing past it. It keeps returning to the need for a daysman, then lands squarely on Christ as the answer.
