51: The Tarot • Part II: Synchronicity & The Spirit of Creative Genius

May 14, 2025·1 hr 23 min·5 clips
When MJ Dorian drew the Devil card in a tarot reading, it exposed his secret relationship doubts.
The host starts with fear. Roughly twenty years earlier, still new to tarot, he had a gifted Book of Thoth deck with artwork by Lady Freda Harris. He loved it, even if he did not quite know what he was handling yet. The paintings and symbols pulled him in. He purified the deck: four elements, grass, incense smoke, the whole ritual until the cards felt like his own. Then he and his girlfriend, now his wife, asked the deck to show who they were. She drew the Star. He drew the Devil. That unnerving little moment becomes the way into synchronicity: an inner state meeting an outer event, with no neat causal bridge between them. The golden scarab comes in as the kind of coincidence that lands because it corresponds, not because it can be explained mechanically. Tarot works in that same territory. The cards can bring up material already active in the observer, just not fully conscious yet. The episode connects that jolt to discovery, creative inspiration, and the emotional voltage around symbols. Von Franz and Alchemical Active Imagination help frame ecstatic psychic states as conditions where synchronistic events may happen more often.

As heard by us

Tarot becomes a serious meditation on synchronicity, creativity, and the force of images.

Tarot comes through here less as a parlour trick than as a way of tracing how coincidence, image, and creative life keep running into one another. M. J.
