The episode opens by warning that social media has become a hunting ground for predators. Eleni is a 21-year-old Greek student from Didyma in northern Greece. She is the daughter of two teachers and is described as joyful, generous, diligent, and ambitious. By eighteen, she already speaks Arabic, German, and English in addition to Greek. She dreams of becoming a diplomat and of seeing the world. Because there is no renowned language university in her hometown, she looks elsewhere to continue her studies. A boy appears in her path and seems charming and jovial at first. Their conversation continues on social media, and a date is arranged. The tone shifts when the man is revealed as a predator who had not been stopped in earlier attempts. Two men later attack Eleni. Her legs are tied, and she is sexually abused. She is beaten in the head, strangled, and left seriously injured before being pushed off a cliff. The fall is not what kills her. The wounds before the drop are said to show that the death was already underway. After the crime, the two men return to the house and try to erase every trace. They clean blood from the walls, furniture, stairs, and van, then discard the clothes, towels, sponges, knives, and condoms they used. The items are left in bushes along the wall instead of being carried away by the current. Before the identification, her family and friends spend two days worried because she has not shown up at university, will not answer her phone, and misses the meeting arranged with a friend that night. Police first work to identify the body and then follow the rose tattoo on Eleni's ankle to a tattoo artist who recognizes his own work. The autopsy confirms a criminal death with head blows, skull fracture, cerebral hemorrhage, strangulation, tied legs, and sexual abuse, while the absence of semen suggests condom use. The closing commentary argues that predators repeat when assaults go unreported and that the justice system failed to take the known violence seriously.

As heard by us

A grim, procedural account of a social media lure, Eleni's murder, and the investigation that identified her.

This is a sober true crime account that keeps Eleni at the center: a 21-year-old Greek student whose life was shaped by hard study, languages, and a wish to become a diplomat before a social media contact led to a fatal meeting.
