Come Holy Spirit | How To Receive The Holy Spirit

·47 min·4 clips

The Holy Spirit doesn't just tag you; it blows new life into your shriveled heart like the Grinch's transformation.

This episode is a sermon from Church on the Rock in Huntley, IL, focusing on receiving the Holy Spirit. Pastor Joshua Wynne begins by welcoming newcomers and praying for clarity. He references Ephesians 1 to explain that believers are filled with the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation, using an analogy of tagging reindeer to illustrate being marked as God's own. The pastor addresses potential anxieties about not feeling holy enough, assuring listeners that belief in Jesus guarantees the Spirit's indwelling. He contrasts this with the empowering of the Holy Spirit, citing Luke 4 where Jesus is filled with the Spirit's power after baptism and fasting. Wynne describes the empowering as being equipped to minister in love, emphasizing it's a continuous process, not a one-time event. He shares a personal story about feeling run down and finding solace in Psalm 127, highlighting reliance on God over self-effort. The sermon includes references to biblical figures like Nicodemus and the woman with the issue of blood to illustrate hunger for more of God. Wynne outlines four steps to receive the Holy Spirit: believe, ask, wait, and take a step of faith, using anecdotes from his youth pastor days to illustrate persistence and risk. He concludes with an altar call, inviting listeners to seek the baptism or continuous filling of the Holy Spirit, supported by worship and prayer.
