Former Paratrooper Exposes The TRUTH About War | Dr Tam Thornborrow

October 26, 2025·1 hr 34 min·5 clips
A former soldier, after witnessing war's horror, questions if God exists by comparing his own consciousness to a simple stone.
Chris opens without much ceremony. He tells listeners he is a former Royal Marines commando, then goes straight at the moral absurdity of sending teenagers abroad to kill other teenagers. Dr Tam meets him from his own combat background, saying the imagined life of a soldier and the reality of combat are very different things. Nobody here is pretending to be neutral. Chris keeps pressing on the public mood around war, especially how people can hate violence in principle and still accept the next conflict once it turns up. Tam broadens it out. He talks about expectations, social life, joining the regiment, and the hard clash between personal reasons for serving and what combat actually does to people. Then the conversation takes a sharp turn. Tam describes a split future: some people living inside electronic systems, others choosing physical community, sport, being outside, and direct human life. It lands as part warning, part verdict. He compares society's direction to Brave New World and The Hunger Game films, with AI and personal technology pulling one group deeper into control. Chris challenges that split. Would the people who want control really allow two systems to exist? Would people inside the managed world want back out? Tam says they have no choice. From there he reaches for a cosmic frame, talking about the Sun, a central Sun, a galactic Sun, and a 26,000-year orbit as part of his wider explanation. By the end, Chris brings it back to unresolved childhood trauma in the military and the guys who may already have been vulnerable before service began. That is the heavy center. He connects early damage to mental health, addiction, homelessness, and suicide, then argues that recognition and preparation inside service still fall short. The ending is matey but grave: support request, promise to continue with Tam, thanks to listeners, and the question of what war recruits before it ever deploys.

As heard by us

A blunt war-and-trauma conversation that lands hardest when it moves past slogans and into consequences.

Chris Thrall and Dr Tam Thornborrow steer the conversation toward war myths, jingoism, and the gap between what recruitment promises and what combat can actually deliver.
