Most people try earning their way there. This episode makes the quieter case for the expense audit: before FI can feel doable, you have to see where the money is already going. The first step is discovery, then awareness, then a move you can actually make. The tone is very ChooseFI in the best sense: look at the numbers, say the true thing out loud, and pick something this week instead of waiting for a perfect plan. Transportation gets properly messy. Robert Farrington comes up because his Uber and Lyft spending only makes sense once you notice he does not own a car. A rideshare line can look ridiculous by itself, but less so when you compare it with car payments, maintenance, and the choice to buy an older vehicle. The Honda Civic gets its turn here too. The point is not that everyone should land on the same answer. It is that one category can mislead you until you compare the whole setup. Food gets the same treatment. Brad and Jonathan split groceries from dining out, then split a cheap quick stop from the Friday or Saturday night version that can jump from a few dollars per person to a lot more. Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, groceries, and a bigger night out all sit under food, but they are not the same habit.
