Episode 120: Cash by Jessica Peterson

·1 hr 39 min·5 clips
A woman discovers her new spatula is actually a cursed sex demon named Spatha.
Cash shows up with a cover Veronica and her cohost genuinely like. They begin with Jessica Peterson's series art, the three books already out, and the two that seem to be on the way. Then Wheeler becomes the emergency. They want her with one of the brothers, though preferably not Sawyer or Wyatt, since those dynamics already have plenty going on. The recap does not stay neatly in its lane. One line about a bet sends them into the heroine's insecurity and the uncomfortable question of whether she is wanted or just being wagered over. Then fashion grabs the wheel. Cowboy boots become a whole hearing, especially once the designs start sounding wildly specific to a culture neither host claims as home turf. They say that part plainly, which only makes the judgment funnier when it still comes in hot. Bright pink boots get a chance. The actual boots in the book do not. Those land in the no pile fast. Her outfits get a little more patience, but not much. A sequined dress headed into a dive bar makes them pause and wonder where this woman thinks she is going. Hartville sounds tiny, and that matters. The city-girl-meets-country-boy setup needs her to stand out, but sometimes she is standing out in exactly the wrong direction. The affection never leaves. They are poking at the romance setup, the styling choices, and the fish-out-of-water tension because those details are carrying more than decoration. By the end, it turns into friend business: social plugs, a YouTube nudge, an email address for kind or constructive notes, and somehow a final landing on grilled cheese and a burning ring of fire.

As heard by us

A romance chat that likes the cover, roasts the boots, and keeps circling Wheeler.

Chick Lit Book Club Podcast treats Cash like a book club room: the hosts are clear about their taste, say they like the cover, work through the series, and keep asking who Wheeler is supposed to end up with.
