Preview - Hidden Signal: Evergreen

June 1, 2023·46 min·4 clips
The seven guests discover a forest and lake five times bigger than Central Park, hidden two and a half miles underground.
The episode begins with a preview framing from Carrier, introducing Evergreen as a nine-episode sci-fi thriller and part of Q-Code's Hidden Signal imprint. The story opens with Hannah Gabriel, executive assistant to Finn Goral of Arca Industries, preparing for a major event at a remote mountain compound during a severe storm. Hannah uses Cortex, an AI assistant that manages the compound's logistics and controls its environment. On this same day, Hannah has decided to quit after five years, frustrated by broken promises of promotion. Finn reacts to her resignation with theatrical intensity but insists she stay through dinner. Seven highly accomplished guests arrive by helicopter: McKenna Scott, a psychologist; Jeffrey Steinberg, a futurist and tech figure; Axel Garcia, a survivalist and breathing guru; Ida Arias, a sociologist; Dagny Isaacs, an agronomist; Nico, a geneticist known for controversial prenatal research; and David Yoon, an oncologist who stepped down from Sloan Kettering to develop what he calls a breakthrough regenerative medicine treatment. The guests are biometrically confirmed and taken underground in an elevator descending four thousand meters. At the bottom, they discover Evergreen: a vast underground biosphere with forest, lake, simulated weather, and a functioning atmosphere. Finn explains that Evergreen is his answer to humanity's inevitable need to abandon the surface, preferring underground survival over space colonization. The guests are given matching coveralls and shown through different sections of the facility, including a virtual memory pod room where psychologist McKenna's concept of reliving memories to rewrite them has been secretly developed by Finn. Finn hosts a dinner where he toasts to the assembled guests as the future pillars of humankind. During the meal, Finn reveals on screens around the room that each guest's home and family is being monitored in real time. He announces that an asteroid the size of Denmark will strike the Atlantic in eight minutes, causing a global extinction event, and that the guests are now locked inside Evergreen. Axel attempts to leave and is electrocuted by the doors. Finn collapses with what appears to be a cardiac event. Hannah, who tried to leave before dinner, is also trapped. A subplot involving catering crew member Greer, who stayed to check on the ovens, places her inside the compound at the moment the doors seal. The episode ends in chaos as the surface world ends and the guests realize their situation is real.

A subterranean sci-fi thriller that turns architecture into tension.

Evergreen is a sci-fi thriller with its pulse set to alarm. A family moment on a farm gives way to the sky turning wrong, then to the subterranean biosphere where seven of the world’s greatest minds are trapped as an asteroid devastates the surface.
