The Philadelphia Xperiment

May 12, 2014·33 min·3 clips
Captain Bridgewater confesses that Patient X died hours before the Philadelphia Experiment began.
It begins beside the fire. The narrator offers the story as maybe true, tied to Project Rainbow and the Philadelphia Experiment. Then the straps appear. John wakes under medical restraint while a doctor and nurse snap at each other over instructions, incompetence, and control. His memory comes back the hard way. Forced to relive it, he is on the USS Eldridge in Philadelphia's naval yards. The ship is almost new. A skeleton crew waits while huge coil arrays spin, hum, glow, and tug at everything around them. Dog tags dig into his neck. Loose chains whip through the air, bearings overheat, and the men realize the experiment is no longer obeying anyone. Panic spreads fast. John feels pushed out of himself, more spirit than sailor, as the deck and metal around him strain. Then the world flashes out. The docks vanish, the shore is gone, and the familiar ship has slipped into some dim borderland. Something has boarded with them. The figures look almost like men, but not enough, drifting among the crew with eyes like fire. The scare is bigger than the spectacle. The men seem to recognize death before it fully arrives. The closing credits bring back ordinary names, which somehow makes it worse. The last medical threat, and the warning that he remains out there, leave the experiment open, unresolved, and still hungry.
