A Glorious Footnote — Part 2

November 10, 2022·43 min·2 clips
Kimber shoots the sheriff after Graham warns, "Nine millimeter to the chest, totally fatal."
Sam comes to after a brutal collapse. He is badly injured and still forcing his way through the haze. The room is crowded with people who want answers. Agent Trepine and Agent Grant are there, along with Fawn Sawyer, Sam's attorney. They lay out the scene from the outside: he was found near death beside a 27-year-old woman and the corpse of a county sheriff, with over a hundred victims tied to the mine. Kimber is already in federal custody. That fact hangs over everything. Sam asks where she is. He also asks about the women from the mine, now being treated at local hospitals or sent elsewhere for more serious care. The agents mention that sensitive information has leaked to the press. Sam says he does not know anything about that, even though he clearly knows the rest of the nightmare very well. He wants a recorded statement. He does not want to sit still and let someone else shape the story. The room pushes back gently because he is in no condition to stand, let alone carry the whole truth at once. The agents remind him that he has only just regained consciousness after a major injury. They tell him nothing he says can be used in court. Sam does not care. He has spent years trying to get people to listen. The scene keeps the pressure on without losing its dry edge. Fawn Sawyer stays practical and sharp, and the federal agents remain polite while making everything feel heavier. Sam keeps steering the conversation back to Kimber. He wants her nearby. He wants the story to move. The dialogue keeps slipping between procedure and pain. One moment it is all legal caution and official language, and the next it is anger, exhaustion, and the ugly joke of trying to do justice while everyone is still bleeding. The episode stays close to the aftermath instead of pretending the crisis is over. The damage is still active. That gives the whole thing a hard, forward-driving tension. It is not just about what happened at the mine, but about who gets to say it out loud. By the end, the setup is clear. Sam is awake, the authorities are listening, and the story is about to turn into a formal statement whether anyone is ready for it or not.

As heard by us

A battered chapter that turns a crime-scene reckoning into steady pressure.
