Vibe Coding Film Remake Experiment: Did AI Just Replace a Year of Animation Work in 2 Days?

·41 min
The experiment stops after two days. Working alone, the host goes back to a student film from 12 years ago and tests how much of that old animation grind AI can fake now. The answer is useful, but not exactly comforting. The remake looks creepy to the host, and that says something, because the original was beginner work made while learning animation, modeling, texturing, compositing, and everything else that comes with trying to finish a film by hand. A cat gives the room a little tension, then the episode settles into the less glamorous part: prompts, storyboards, scene order, and the small stuff that refuses to stay small. The plan keeps changing. At first, the host is thinking in 13 scenes. Then the sequence gets split into many more pieces, with around 30 scenes as the working map. Later, a storyboard breakdown lands at 37 scenes, though not all of it survives. The host trims while building, and that becomes the real job. AI can spit out pieces quickly. Getting those pieces to act like one film is where the trouble starts. The nursery is supposed to feel like bright daytime, but the lighting keeps shifting from shot to shot. Then the bird makes the problem impossible to ignore. It is supposed to resemble the host's guinea pig: white body, brown patch near the eye, white tail. Then the tail changes color. Brown shows up where it should not. The baby looks different. The world keeps looking almost right, then betrays itself in the next shot. The web development comparison is the cleanest part. The host treats the film like a website build. One segment can look fine on its own and still fail once requirements, sequence, and continuity have to hold together. The nostalgia is doing work here too. Those old nights and days of manual effort suddenly feel strange, because the fast AI version is easier in spots, creepy in spots, and still not done.
